Haus of Gloi - Autumn Collection

Disclaimer - all products were purchased by me.

A while back Haus of Gloi released their autumn collection which is always hotly anticipated from buyers. Along with these popular scents comes the Candy Bowl scents (one or two note fragrances inspired by a variety of sweet treats and only available in five mL perfume oils), a Reverie release (extremely limited new and/or returning fragrances offered in a small variety of products) and a few new fragrances only offered in perfume format. Autumn releases are pretty hectic with items selling out within minutes and this year was no exception, but luckily I was able to snag everything on my list.

I'll review the Reverie and Candy Bowl scents in a separate post so this one doesn't get too long. But for now these are the returning scents.

Ghost Puffs - buttery popcorn and marshmallow goo orbs presented on a wooden stick. This is possibly the most popular scent the Haus offers as it sells out within minutes of the site going live. It was reformulated this year due to a supplier issue but I have the 2014 and 2015 versions on hand. The 2014 version was heavy on the butter with a hint of marshmallow creaminess and the wooden stick note (think of a Popsicle stick). It was a bit too buttery for my taste but this newer version is right up my alley. Now it's almost entirely a sugary vanilla marshmallow with only a hint of butter to cut the sweetness.

Olde Cider Haus - old oak, sweet drying hay fields, crushed apple pulps and vanilla husks. This is one of my favorites. I mostly smell the cold apple with soft oak and a subtle sweetness from the vanilla. On the skin the apple gradually fades and what's left is a bit hard to describe. Definitely sweet, slightly dry and woodsy, maybe a VERY subtle spice (not sure why I smell that since it's not in the description). The oak is soft and subtle but helps ground everything. It's a beautiful apple scent but I can see where this might veer into air freshener/candle territory.

Persephone's Descent - pomegranate, pale musk, narcissus blossom and black amber. This is such a sultry fruity floral blend, like the kind you wear with red lips and a little black dress. The pomegranate and musk are the strongest notes in the bottle, but I can smell a pretty floral aroma blended in. It didn't morph once I applied it so what I smelled in the bottle is the same on the skin. If you're looking for a more grown up fruity blend, this is a great one.

Pumpkin Eater - cream, glowing pumpkin, rich vanilla bean and the tiniest touch of nutmeg butter. It's a sweet and creamy scent, very warm and "golden." I smell a lot of cream, sugar and nutmeg. The nutmeg amps on my skin but eventually fades, leaving a sugary cream behind. I've seen reviews that say this smells just like a pumpkin pie, but this doesn't smell like that at all to me. Warm, sugary sweet cream and nutmeg is what I get. Normally I'd be all over a creamy blend like this but Pumpkin Eater gets a pass from me.

Pumpkin Patch - dried leaves, twisted vines, orange pumpkins, golden amber and earth. This smells just like pumpkin vines and dirt. It's a sharp green fragrance that smells  like you rolled around in a pumpkin patch. The leaves and vines fade and it transforms into a dirty, earthy scent. It's unisex but I see it leaning more masculine. This was a Reverie scent from last year but it made a reappearance in this years lineup.

Pumpkin Queen - gentle hay pillows, pumpkin, ripe peaches dusted with clove and nutmeg, dried summer herbs and lastly, a lovely crown of amber. A very dry, herbal scent in the vial; it smells like a spice rack. On the skin the peach begins to emerge and sweeten things up a little, bit it's still heavy on the herbs. The peach eventually fades and all I'm left with is herbs. I loved this one last year but now I can't wear it. It smells like I rubbed every kitchen herb in the spice rack on my wrist.

Spider Silk - procured from a dream: delicate water mint, wispy grey musk, crystalline webs of amber, oakmoss, torchwood, copaiba resin, and a touch of withered violet leaf. In the vial it smells like mint and oakmoss with a subtle musk. It's light and delicate on the surface with the oakmoss adding a damp, earthy depth. It has an aquatic quality althoughI wouldn't classify it as an aquatic but rather an earthy forest blend.

Tobac - pipe tobacco, a wisp of smoke, bourbon vanilla and two cedarwoods. This was only offered as a perfume this year but in the past it's been offered in bath & body products as well. In the vial I smell tobacco and cedar with a slight sweetness from the vanilla. There's an almost boozy quality as well. It's a very masculine scent. I can't comment on how this wears because this isn't a scent I would be able to tolerate (tobacco...blech!). It was a free sample but not something I would ever try.

Final thoughts - there's a good variety of scents here but Olde Cider Haus and Persephone's Descent are my faves. Pumpkin Patch was nice while it lasted but I'm not sure if I would repurchase it. The autumn collection is no longer listed on the website but I'm sure most of these will return next year. There's a lot of destashes in the Haus of Gloi Facebook group so you'll likely have luck finding these scents over there if you don't want to wait for next year.
