Arcana Vanilla Craves Bread

Disclaimer - all products were purchased by me.

This is a new scent that Arcana released along with the Yule collection. It's the second scent in the upcoming Vanilla Craves line. I love vanilla scents and even though I wasn't expecting to like something with bread in the name, I figured I'd give it a try anyway.

Vanilla Craves Bread - vanilla bean, soft brown bread, a drizzle of honey and a hint of bakery yeast. In the bottle this smells like corn bread smothered in honey. There's a hint of yeast, and the vanilla is subtle but helps smooth everything out. Thankfully this is a realistic honey scent with slight floral undertones, not that medicinal-vinegar smell I've encountered with some honey blends from a few other sellers. On my skin the honey amps for the first hour and remains the dominant note until towards the end of the wear time. The bread note is detectable but stays in the background, preventing this blend from becoming too sweet. It reminds me more of a buttered pastry than actual yeasty dough. After 4-5 hours I begin to smell a soft, slightly sweet vanilla floating on top of a barely detectable bread note. At this point I have to press my nose into my wrist to smell it, and around the seven hour mark is when I need to reapply.

Final thoughts - I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I do.    This was surprisingly wearable for a bread fragrance, which I tend to avoid. I was expecting this to be heavy on the yeasty dough, but that wasn't the case. It's much more soft and sweet than I expected, and that honey scent is to die for. Now that I think about it, I'd love to see Arcana release a single note honey scent that I could use to layer. It's currently in stock at Arcana's EBay shop. I'm not sure whether this is limited edition but there's been a lot of interest in this scent, so if you're thinking about purchasing it you might want to do it soon.
