The Bathing Garden Scare Collection

Disclaimer - all products were purchased by me.

These are most of the scent offerings from the Scare (aka Halloween) collections of 2014 and 2015. These are no longer available on the website but I've been reaching for these a lot lately so I figured I'd review them.

I just wanted to add a quick note here so I don't repeat this a dozen times. There's a lot of Lush dupes in this collection. I've never smelled a single Lush product so I can't compare any of these to the originals.

Jumbo tart in Tombstone Dust

Free jumbo sugar scrub

Lotion and scrub samples with brain shaped wax sample

Anti-Madness - lemon drop candies, coconut key lime curd filling and rich cheesecake bites (2014). This was only offered as a scrub. It's mostly lemon with a touch of lime. No coconut. The cheesecake helps smooth out the citrus but it's still a tart blend.

Ballet of the Witches - a blend of several vanillas for a deep, rich, comforting scent that is great on its own or perfect for blending with almost anything (2014). A warm vanilla that doesn't have much sweetness. It isn't very strong in the warmer so I use two cubes.

Belladonna Tincture - a spicy blend of black pepper, patchouli and vetiver softened by mellow sandalwood. So I'm guessing this is a blend of two Lush dupes, Lord of Misrule and Death and Decay (the label says "Misrule and Decay"). I've smelled the LoM dupe from another vendor but I don't really pick up on it in here. Instead I smell a white floral aroma with a touch of spicy pepper. I think I'm smelling lilies. It's a little perfumey, ever so slightly sharp from the pepper, and very soft.

Belle Morte - black fruits are balanced with creamy vanilla notes and a hint of ozone and crisp greens. This is a dupe for Lush Comforter. It's a dark berry blend, black currants perhaps. And very creamy. This is like a darker, less sweet version of B&BW Black Raspberry Vanilla.

Black Magic Laboratory - orange chiffon, black velvet cake, chocolate shavings and creme soaked cookie bites (2014). This was only available as a jumbo tart last year. Smells like an orange sherbert and chocolate chip cookies. It's a very smooth bakery blend that I love.

Booberry - blueberry, strawberry and vanilla with a heaping scoop of sweet sugar (2014). This is a creamy blueberry with a cereal note in here. I don't smell any strawberry or vanilla. Wasn't there a Booberry cereal? I'm pretty sure there was. Anyway, this is like a kid's cereal with a creamy blueberry note.

Booberry Mansion - blueberry, strawberry and vanilla with a heaping scoop of sweet sugar blended with iced birthday cake. This is the same as Booberry but with a cake note added. It smells like creamy blueberry and vanilla cake. I prefer this over Booberry because the cake downplays the cereal note I mentioned above.

Bubbling Butter Brew - sweet clotted cream, salted caramel, butterscotch and a touch of bubbling cream soda (2014). I believe this is Shannon's version of butter beer from the Harry Potter series...at least I like to think of it that way. This is all warm salted caramel. I don't smell the cream soda. It's not as sweet as I expected from the description and it's light in the warmer so I always use two cubes.

Candy Corn Labyrinth - a top layer of sugared candy corn over a bottom layer of mandarin, musk, sugar and a woodsy violet. The bottom layer is Illusions of the Labyrinth which is a dupe for Lush Lady Catrina/Calacas. I haven't melted this yet so I'm not sure how the two layers will combine in the warmer. The top layer is sugary sweet candy corn and the bottom layer is a tart but smooth orange with a subtle woodsy note to add depth.

Colossal Pumpkin Lantern - a split parfait with one side sugar scrub scented with chocolate frosted brownies next to a side of whipped soap scented with vanilla cream pumpkin brulee. I received a sample of this with a previous order. I smell milk chocolate and warm pumpkin but everything comes together to smell a bit like dirt. The vanilla is there but I have a hard time picking it out.

Deadly Sleeping Drought - French lavender, white tea and thyme essential oil (2014). Herbal lavender and thyme. Mostly thyme. I don't smell much white tea. It makes a great nighttime blend.

Death Becomes Her - spun sugar, white vanilla buttercream, peppermint cookies, and a sprinkle of rock candy chips and cotton candy (2014). I smell peppermint, sugar cookies and cotton candy. This blend isn't as sweet as I expected from the description. It's more of a minty bakery blend.

Elixir of Life - tart green citrus fruits blend with a fizzy lime soda pound cake (2014). It's mostly a buttery pound cake with some tart lime. I'd never heard of a lime soda pound cake so I made one with a recipe I found online. And this tart smells just like the cake I made.

Ever Night - lavender and lilac are highlighted with a touch of eucalyptus and blended with soft woods, white musk and sugary vanilla. This is a Lush Twilight dupe and I hear it's pretty close to the original. It's a calming woodsy blend that is romantic but not perfumey at all.  I smell the lavender and eucalyptus with an occasional whiff of the sweet vanilla. It's a great blend for nighttime.

Eye of Newt - a refreshing watery scent with hints of frozen peppermint (2014). This was a sugar scrub last year. It smells just like it says: water and peppermint. It's cooling and refreshing and the scent leans masculine to my nose.

Faded Opulence - a warm fizzy tart! Clove, ginger, blood orange and bubbling cola. I get the cola, clove and ginger but no orange. It's an effervescent, warm and cozy scent that I love to melt in the colder months.

Faerie Bonfire - a complex bonfire scent with notes of leaves, vanilla, sandalwood and brown sugar. A while back when I reviewed Moonalisa's Halloween Hayride scent I mentioned that it smelled familiar. This is what I was thinking of. It's a crisp, dry scent and it smells like burning leaves. It's smoky without smelling like an actual fire (if that makes sense). I love this one and always reach for it for rainy days. It's so warm and snuggly. I just wish it rained more so I could melt this more often. It also makes a great blender.

Hall of Mirrors - mounds of sugar, white cake and a hint of strawberries (2014). This one is pretty popular and it pops up often in restocks. There's lots of sweet strawberries and sugar here. It smells just like a pink cake. This one has also been called 7 Layer Cake in the past so they're the same scent, just different names.

Haunted Hayride - tart granny smith apples, caramel, cinnamon, pumpkin and hints of hay. I smell a lot of dry hay and warm pumpkin with a touch of caramel apple. This is one of my favorites for fall and I'm glad it was available again this year.

Haunted Mansion - orange bonfire, cinnamon sugar sticks, mandarin chiffon cake (2014). This was a jumbo tart that was offered last year. It smells like Faerie Bonfire with cinnamon added to it. I don't smell the citrus. It's a smoky, spicy blend that I love.

Hoarfrost Tonic - a refreshing scent with lime, cyprus, mellow pine and cool air notes. I thought I read this was another Lush dupe but I can't find it now. Northern Lights? Anyway, tart lime and cool woods underneath. It smells very masculine to me.

Illusions of the Labyrinth - mandarin, musk, sugar and a woodsy violet (2014). A Calacas/Lady Catrina dupe. This is the same as Candy Corn Labyrinth minus the candy corn. It's a slightly tart but mostly smooth orange blended with subtle woods. I love this one and it's a top favorite that I always stock up on.

Magic Green Soup - rainforest fruits, rosewood, tuberose, coconut, clove, cedar wood, grasses, jungle leaves and patchouli essential oil. Another dupe, this time it's Lush Jungle. This one is green and very woodsy. I smell a lot of patchouli with some cedar and rosewood. Maybe a hint of coconut but it's buried deep. It's a very masculine scent.

Monster Mash Up - a top layer of brown sugar pineapple over a bottom layer of grape vanilla sugar. An equal blend of grape and pineapple with a little brown sugar added. I love the pineapple in this, it smells like the real thing. This makes a nice summer melt.

Mummy Mademoiselle - candied rose jam, sweet sticky saltwater taffy and creamy white vanilla. Shannon creates beautiful rose blends and this one is no exception. I mostly smell saltwater taffy with the rose in the background. I can't be sure but the rose smells a little like the Lush Rose Jam fragrance. I think I smell the barest hint of lemon too. It's a unique rose blend that is more foody than floral.

Poisoned Apothecary - hot mulled apple cider with a woody undertone (2014). Smells just like lightly spiced, hot apple cider. Strong in the warmer.

Pumpkin Butterscotch Chip Waffles - sweet pumpkin waffles swirled with butterscotch chips. So I don't usually care for the pumpkin waffle blend but I like this one. It smells like warm waffles but the butterscotch helps sweeten things up a little. A creamy, warm bakery blend.

Pumpkin Marshmallow Cookie Jar - soft fresh baked pumpkin sugar cookies dipped in marshmallow (2014). I smell warm pumpkin, a whisper of spices and sugar cookie dough. This reminds me of Sugar and Spice Pumpkin Bread but a little sweeter and less spicy.

Soothing Nerve Tonic - smells like Baby Bee & Buttermilk lotion with a splash of a secret something extra (2014). This is a dupe for the Burt's Bees Baby Bee lotion in the children's aisle. I picked this up in the store to compare and they smell the same. It's a milky scent that smells clean and a little sweet. It's comforting and soft with a strong throw so I only need one cube.

Sugar and Spice Pumpkin Bread - caramel sugar sprinkles blended with pumpkin spice and yeasty bread notes. Smells just like pumpkin bread. No yeast that I can smell. Just sweet and spicy pumpkin bread.

Tombstone Dust - green apple cinnamon cupcakes with a marshmallow brown sugar and caramel glaze (2014). This was only available as a jumbo tart. It's heavy on the tart green apples and cinnamon, but the spice is softened by brown sugar and marshmallows. That decription though! I need to find a recipe for that.

Toxic Earth...Dig with Caution - Halloween beer scrub made with organic mocha beer and coffee butter. This scrub combines brown sugar, white sugar, beer, rhassoul clay and coffee butter. It smells of coffee, whiskey, caramel, cake and lightly of beer...sprinkled with candy bones. Unique and addicting! This scrub is only offered during Halloween. It smells like coffee and rich chocolate with a little caramel sweetness. It doesn't smell like beer so don't let that scare you off.

Tricky Banana Treats - a yummy vanilla cupcake with swirls of banana, caramel, kissed with a hint of cinnamon and cream cheese frosting. I mostly smell a smooth cupcake batter with caramel and a touch of real banana. It's not as sweet as I expected, and it's more bakery than banana.

Vampire Blood - strawberries, persimmon, raspberry jam, pomegranate, cranberry, fig, and crushed vanilla beans with a sprinkle of brown sugar (2014). This reminds me of the Cranberry & Fig scent in the holiday collection but a little sweeter and not as dark. I think of this as a berry blend for the colder months. I smell the cranberries, tart raspberries and figs...maybe a little brown sugar.

Wolfsbane Bite - rich holiday cookies, butter and Moroccan mint. Warm buttery cookies with a cooling touch of green mint. It's such a cozy bakery blend that I hoard. It's a little light in the warmer so I prefer two cubes.

Final thoughts - there's so many great scents here that it's difficult to pick favorites. Illusions of the Labyrinth, Haunted Hayride, Wolfsbane Bites, Faerie Bonfire, Mummy Madamoiselle and Faded Opulence are my top choices though. This collection is no longer available on the website but they pop up in destashes on Facebook. Shannon is great about adding scent requests so if you see something you like, just let her know on The Bathing Garden's Facebook page.
