Haus of Gloi Haus Birthday

Disclaimer - all products were purchased by me.

Earlier this month, Haus of Gloi released a small limited edition collection to celebrate their 7th year in business. There were a total of eight new fragrances offered that were all blended with Haus Amber, which is a general catalog scent that is offered year-round. A lot of the blends were intriguing and I was planning on getting more than I did, but ultimately I settled for a sample of Haus Birthday.

I mean, amber and neroli? Amber, vanilla and coconut? Amber and rose? OK, I'd have been surprised if I ended up liking that last one. But they sounded good...until I saw the price. $28 for a bottle of perfume is steep for me. I don't mind a splurge for something special, but for multiple bottles at that price? There were no sample sizes offered nor were there any decant circles that I was aware of. In the end, I decided against the amber perfumes and went with Haus Birthday, which was the only scent offered in sample size.

Haus Birthday - wild Cascadian huckleberries, butter cream frosting, clove spiced cake and wisps of incense all grounded into a base of our Haus Amber. In the vial, I get a deep, slightly tart berry note that reminds me of blueberries combined with a zesty lemon. I can pick out the clove, which helps brighten this blend. There's an occasional whiff of incense around the edges, but it doesn't contribute much overall. For some reason, I smell something that makes me think of cola. I'm thinking it's the clove because it smells a little fizzy. I had a blueberry cola scented wax melt before and that's what Haus Birthday reminds me of. Fruity, fizzy, and fresh from the lemon top note. It doesn't morph much on my skin. The lemon top note gradually fades until all I can smell is that blueberry cola combo throughout the dry down. I got around seven or eight hours of wear with moderate sillage.

Final thoughts - I was wary of some of the notes at first but after testing this, I ordered a pumpkin butter. All of the notes blended together harmoniously to create a playful, unique fragrance, and I can see this being a great summer scent. In fact, if you like Haus of Gloi's Zazz scent from the summer collection, you'd probably enjoy this. You can still find Haus Birthday listed on the website here, but I believe that is all that remains of the inventory.
