Moonalisa Halloween 2016

Disclaimer - all products were purchased by me.

Hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving and a stress-free Black Friday shopping experience!

So I've been meaning to get this review up sooner but this is the third time I'm attempting to post it. The first two times I accidentally deleted the entire post, so here's to hoping the third time will work.

This order arrived a few days before Halloween and the turn around time was much longer than expected. The collection went up on the website back around August 9, and shipping was supposed to begin around the second week of September. So...yeah. Anyways, I ordered a few favorites that I discovered last year like Rumpkin and Halloween Hayride. I went over those last year (here and here), so these are the scents that were new to me.

This was the free goodie bag that was included, filled with candies, a business card and a tinted lip balm. It has a smooth, buttery formula that is just perfect - neither too tacky nor too oily. It gives my lips a soft wash of a sheer red color and helps brighten my complexion immensly.

Our blend of juicy apricot and delicious butterscotch all rolled into one!

Sticky sweet, thick peach syrup from a can swirled with a hint of smooth butterscotch. The apricot smells more like peach, like the one in Moona's Peches Melba. This one teeter-totters on the verge of being cloying.

Carnival Cakes

Dig into this sinfully delicious carnival concoction of sweet, gooey glazed funnel cakes. Made of browned butter, caramelized sugar, dripping with maple syrup and vanilla icing, topped off with cinnamon and nutmeg spiked vanilla sugar crystals.

I expected this one to be pretty sweet, but it's nearly identical to Moona's Funnel Cakes You to Hell scent. There's a lot of cinnamon and I pick up on a fried dough smell that is heavily salted. More like a cinnamon-dusted pretzel than a funnel cake.

Fairy Bait

Wild raspberries, boysenberries, mandarin orange and tuberose.

Mmm boysenberries. There just aren't enough boysenberry scents in the perfume world. This is the most delicious fruity blend that smells like a mix of raspberries and blackberries. There's just enough orange to brighten this blend without it being too orangey, if that makes any sense. The berries are plump and juicy, sweet enough for the warmer months and just dark enough to work in the colder months.

Gooey Goblin

Caramel popcorn balls covered in chocolate marshmallows.

Rich melted milk chocolate and hot buttered popcorn. I can't decide whether I like this one. On one hand, Moona does the best chocolate scents. On the other hand, the popcorn smells like buttered melting plastic. To be fair though, every popcorn scent I've tried smells this way so I assume it's the fragrance oil that my nose disagrees with.

Pumpkin Batter

Scrumptious toasty bread, pumpkin puree, warm autumn spices, vanilla frosting, creamy caramel and juicy raisins.

Yeasty homemade bread, warm pumpkin pie in the oven, and a cinnamon candle burning nearby. It smells like a cozy autumn kitchen. More of a bread scent than pumpkin.

Pumpkin Clafouti

Spicy pumpkin almond cake.

Warm pumpkin pie with a generous amount of cinnamon. I don't smell the almonds per se, but this one has a distinct toasted note that sets it apart from other pumpkin pie scents I've tried. It's somewhat similar to Pumpkin Batter.

Pumpkin Waffles and Pecan Praline

Rich and full of autumn's goodness with comforting warm pumpkin waffles doused with rich, nutty and sweet pecan praline.

This is a dupe for the popular B&BW Pumpkin Pecan Waffle scent. It has the warm aroma of fried dough, closer to funnel cake than waffle, and I can't pinpoint the pumpkin. It becomes sweeter over time, resembling a blend of caramelized sugar and nuts.

Smoked Apple Vanilla

A subtly smoked apple blends with sultry, boozy vanilla bourbon.

This starts out as fresh red apple with a delicate touch of smoldering wood dancing around the edges. It's sweet and mouthwatering with a cozy, warm edge. The woodsmoke disappears quickly and is replaced by the vanilla. Not a boozy vanilla but more like sugared vanilla beans. This one is insanely good!

A nice order altogether, but the only ones I'd repurchase are Smoked Apple Vanilla and Fairy Bait. Everything else is nice but I didn't get that Wow! factor that I usually get from Moona's scents. Her Halloween stuff is no longer available, but the Yule offerings are currently on the website.

  1. Thanks for the reviews. I don't recall whether or not Carnival Cakes was new this year, but it was my first - and last - time trying it. It was straight-up cinnamon in the product I bought, and while I like cinnamon, I had hoped for much more of the funnel cake scent instead.

Pumpkin Batter is usually a fall staple for me, although I skipped it this year. Wish I hadn't.
