April already! This year is flying by so quickly. The weather is warming up, the leaves are green once more, and allergy season is kicking my arse worse than ever. The little one starts kindergarten in a few short months and I'm enjoying the remaining days that I have her all to myself. I still need to get on the registration, though. And after much back and forth with the insurance company, I finally got an appointment for my oldest daughter to see a new specialist for her bone disease. We have to wait for her blood work and x-rays to be completed before going back, but hopefully this doctor will come up with a treatment plan to get her pain managed.
This was a productive month as far as using up the stash goes. A lot of these were samples that have been taking up space, but I'm working towards using up more full size products for the month of April. I did enjoy working on this post though. Looking back on the empties helps me feel like I'm making a dent in this overwhelming stash and it motivates me to write something down when I avoid working on blog posts because I just don't know what to say.
Highly addictive! Fresh honey with sparkling notes of bergamot and sweet orange accented by a layer of buttery toffee in a foundation of resinous frankincense and myrrh.
Soap sample. This is a Lush HIWtK dupe, but it smells much better than other ones I've tried. It actually smells buttery and warm like real toffee without that bergamot top note that I dislike so much. I'd consider repurchasing a sample sized perfume or body whip before deciding on a full size product.
The eternal embodiment of spring pays tribute to you with a mix of hyacinth blossoms, myrtle and wild heather with the soft green foliage of moss and ivy, gently grounded by a warm and earthy base of clove, cinnamon and myrrh.
A leafy green blend of hyacinth mixed with hints of freshly turned soil. Very strongly scented. I just adore this scent and look forward to it every spring. Unfortunately it is long discontinued but I have enough to last a few more years.
Bar soap sample. I searched and searched some more for a description but couldn't find one. It's an older soap from maybe two years ago? I think it was a tropical floral blend but the scent has completely faded. I have other soaps from this brand that still have a strong scent so I don't know why this happened.
Cotton Candy Cocktail x3
Sweet cotton candy with a twist of raspberry liqueur.
A tart raspberry candy with powdered sugar. It reminds me of LSC Snow Globe down below minus the vanilla. Moderate throw with half a cup.
Lavender + Sinus Relief (Vick's Vapor scent)
This one was mislabeled as their Love Like Ghosts scent. Equal parts herbal lavender and icy Vick's. Light throw but it probably needs to cure a bit longer.
Meet Me in Tahiti
Sparkling mandarin with honeydew, fresh hibiscus and vanilla.
Heavy on the tropical floral and musk with a creamy orange background. Moderate throw with half a cup.
Black Chocolate Raspberries
Fresh, juicy raspberries coated in a layer of rich dark chocolate with a hint of seduction.
Ends with Benefits. Bitter dark chocolate and raspberry initially, but it later morphs into a deep, spicy/peppery amber. *Very* strongly scented and I could still smell it in my hair days later.
Fear of Halloween
The tooth ache inducing candy at the bottom of old worn pillowcases and plastic jack o' lanterns! Sweet tarts, candy corn, assorted lollipops, melting chocolate and wild raspberry chewing gum.
Argan Therapy Creme. It smells like raspberries and sweet tart candies in the bottle, and Tootsie Rolls in my hair.
Fruity/fizzy cosmic house blend x fizzy soda
Gemstone soap sample. Sweet orange and red berry punch with lots of bubbles. Love this scent and the soap lathers like crazy.
Future Primitive Soap
Cocoa bean, smoky vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli and sun-warmed jasmine flowers.
Bath truffle. A hypnotic, golden amber with traces of milk chocolate. I'm super picky with amber but this one is divine. Strongly scented on my skin even after I cut this into 4 smaller pieces.
Peppermint Hot Cocoa
Rich and delicious hot cocoa infused with a combination of Indian peppermint, Madagascan vanilla oil and decadent cocoa absolute.
Olfactory bathing grains. Straight up peppermint with a touch of rich vanilla. I don't smell the chocolate. It's *very* strongly scented and the entire bathroom ends up smelling like peppermint. Good for when your sinuses are congested so I'd probably reorder.
Smoked Mexican Chocolate
Slabs of darkest chocolate infused with vanilla bean pods, rum ripened raisins, cinnamon and nutmeg dust, finished with the faintest hint of hearth smoke.
Body whip sample. This is all woodsmoke with a trace of deep, bitter chocolate to ground it. However, I still think it smells like smoked meat. I was hoping this would be more gourmand rather than woodsy/smoky.
Haus of Gloi
Flushed but demure. Fresh milk, clean linens, pale musk and pink sweet pea blossoms.
Perfume sample, pumpkin butter and bubbling sugar scrub. The scrub is clean, starched linens and white musk. The perfume oil and pumpkin butter are much sweeter, smelling like a blend of delicate sweet pea and baby powder. Very dainty and "pink"
A hot cuppa cocoa infused with peppermint.
Perfume sample. An initial burst of peppermint that fades quickly, leaving behind a true chocolate scent blended with steamy milk. Moderate sillage.
Sugary and slightly spiced plum.
Butter bomb. I'm going to say this is more of a berry scent like black currant rather than plum. Mostly tart with a perfumey floral base. Very strongly scented even when I cut it in half.
Lip balm. I can't find the description (or the tube to include in the pic, for that matter), but this is rose and I think vanilla. It smells plasticky and has a strong "base" smell from the butters and oils used to make it. I've noticed this in almost every one of the balms I've tried over the years, and that's at least a dozen. They have a great formula (not too tacky and not too oily/greasy), but the flavor leaves a lot to be desired.
Sugary white vanilla divinity with a surprising jolt of peppermint.
Whipped soap, 2015 version. Peppermint with a hint of plasticky vanilla cream. I've noticed that the lightly-scented whipped soaps have a strong base smell (I'm looking at you, Ghost Puffs) and that's what I'm getting here. I also have Winter Divinity in a pumpkin butter and it smells closer to the description minus the plasticky note.
L3 Waxy Wonders
Not candy banana but freshly peeled banana.
Wax sample. More like a blend between the fruit and the candy, and it has a burnt plastic tone. Strong throw that lasted all day.
Bogart and Bacall
Creamy coconut milk, musk and Golden Sands
Sweet, beachy florals rounded out by soft coconut milk. Strong throw that lasts all day with a half cup.
Notes of pineapple, acai, mango, passionfruit, yuzu, green apple, orchid and musk.
Tart tropical fruits of passionfruit and pineapple with strong floral notes. A summer time staple. Strong throw all day long. It's great on its own, but I'd like to try it as a blender for customs sometime.
Gardenia Coconut Coast
More of a starchy laundry blend than a coconut one. Strong throw.
Rainforest sugar cane, fir trees and creamy vanilla.
A green woodsy blend with a clean, masculine feel. I love this one, but the throw is on the lighter side.
Sweet passion fruit and tangy guava.
Tart pink tropical fruits and florals. It's similar to Bora Bora but not as sweet. Strong throw.
Through the Looking Glass
Sugared violet petals, wild berries and sweet grass.
Fresh cut grass and sweet blackberries. It has that perfumey floral musk vibe, like B&BW does. Moderate throw but only lasts about half a day.
Lasting Scent Candles
Fluffy muffins covered in our house blended cherry cider and sprinkled with sugar.
Warm apple cider served with black cherry turnovers. Mostly a buttery bakery scent. Strong throw with a half cup.
Pink Ocean Air
A clean ocean breeze with pink sugar crystals.
Crisp ozone softened by touches of cotton candy and musk. It's a clean scent that reminds me more of a laundry scent than an aquatic one. Moderate throw with half a cup.
Lemon Ginger Snaps
Crispy gingersnap cookies with our own sugared lemon creme frosting and candy sugar sprinkles.
A thick slice of warm gingerbread smothered in vanilla icing and sprinkled with lemon zest. Strong throw.
Snow Globe x2
Vanilla beans, candy coated marshmallows, and mounds and mounds of snow.
A thick, sort of buttery vanilla with a plasticky berry-mint blend. I think it's the same note she uses in her spun sugar and rock candy scents. Moderate throw with a half cup.
Moonalisa and Mooscents
Sugared violets on butter sponge cake.
4-in-1. I have this in a perfume and potion lotion, and I get both the violet and cake equally. In this format though, it's all buttery yellow cake. Decadent and rich, but I miss those beautiful sweet violets.
Smooth creamy milk and dark chocolate ganache dipped buttery shortbread.
Wax sample. The dark, bitter chocolate really comes out in the warmer and compliments the shortbread nicely. Strong throw all day.
Harvest hay, bonfires and dried leaves mix with amber, smoky sandalwood and musk. In the distance you are anxious to get back to the circle with the promise of roasted marshmallows and other sugary seasonal treats.
Sugarload scrub. A seasonal favorite that is a must have. It's an eery blend of cool air, crunchy dried leaves and bonfire smoke.
A fresh blend of various hues of blue hydrangea and hyacinth.
Perfume oil. Green like whoa! The sharp aroma of leaves and stems and maybe some lemon topnotes for extra zest. It's *very* strongly scented in this format and lasts most of the day.
The Blue Aspic
Rich woods of birch, sandalwood and cedar blended with bits of autumn's golden hay and tobacco, soaked in aged tropical rum. On a bed of warm vanilla orchid accord and balsamic amber. Topped off with spices of nutmeg, cinnamon and brightened with accents of crystallized gingered citrus rinds.
Potion lotion. Zingy, sharp birch topnotes that quickly unfolds into a powdery sandalwood. The drydown reminds me of NAVA's White Santalum. Unfortunately this is one of the few Moona scents that did not work out. I loved it in the bottle, but the sandalwood just didn't vibe with my skin.
A pure and simple violet.
Potion lotion. Delicate petals with a light touch of green freshness. Lightly scented but very pretty for spring. I'll have to grab this again next year.
Sugar & Spice
Caramel Drizzled Pears AKA Pearamel
Notes of granny smith apples, pear and black cherries, followed by middle notes of caramel and maple sugar, and rounded out with base notes of buttercream and vanilla.
Pears and green apples (more apple though) sweetened with a brown sugar glaze. This one is extremely strong with half a scent cup, and I probably could've melted this for two days straight.
Marshmallow Jelly Donut
Marshmallow blended with jelly donut.
Fluffy marshmallow and sweet raspberry candies. No bakery notes. Moderate throw.
Peach Strawberry Cream Cake
Peach, strawberry, birthday cake and cream.
A creamy peach background with tangy orange topnotes. The vanilla cake comes out once the orange has burned off. More tangy and citrusy than sweet. It smells just like the Yankee Peach and Sweet Berries Candle that I used to have. Strong throw with a half cup.
Fluffy marshmallows, candy canes and Christmas cookies.
Sweet buttery cookies dripping with marshmallow goo and sprinkled with crushed peppermint candies. More bakery than minty. Medium throw but it doesn't last long in the warmer.
Lotus blossom, pink chiffon, sea salt and blackberries.
Sweet blackberries and delicate floral musk. Playful and girly, very perfumey, and nice for springtime. It's one of the few pink chiffon scents I've liked. Strong throw.
Kettle corn, gingerbread and ice cream scoop bread.
Oh gosh, I love this. Sweet and buttery bakery with a trace of spices from the gingerbread. It reminds me of toffee or butterbrickle. Somewhat moderate throw and the scent burned out before the day was halfway through.
The Bathing Garden
Marshmallow peppermint crystallized over sweet rose petals.
Mainly peppermint with hints of citrusy Rose Jam. Very strong throw.
Moist carrot cake topped with cream cheese frosting.
Just like the description but with the addition of chopped nuts and vanilla. It's good, but the throw was very light.
Salty and sweet popcorn, 7 layer cake with blue cotton candy, and toffee dipped apples.
Heavy on the yummy caramel apple but there's a stale buttered popcorn note that throws it off. Strong throw.
Fried Candy Donut
Berry donuts rolled in fluffy pink cotton candy.
Warm fried dough with sweet, jammy strawberry filling. More bakery than fruity. Moderate throw.
Green & Sassy
Notes of lemongrass and citrus blended with hints of sage, vanilla and musk.
Mostly lemon and sweet grass the whole time it was melting. There was a wiff of sage in the first hour but it didn't hang around beyond that. Strong throw.
A refreshing scent with lime, cypress, mellow pine, and cool air notes.
A Lush Northern Lights dupe with icy cold evergreens and fresh limes. I'd probably like this if it weren't for the cypress, which is what I smell the most of. It's very strongly scented though, filling the shower with a fresh, stimulating aroma.
Lemon Curd and Rose Milk
Tart lemon curd is layered over fresh cut roses and blended with rich milk.
A bouquet of roses plucked straight from the garden with accents of tangy lemon to brighten things up. The milk helps blend the two together, but it doesn't have a distinct smell. It just adds a creamy element. Not a Rose Jam dupe but I like this one more. Strong throw all day long.
Bonfire wisps, lavender and chamomile sugar crystals.
The chamomile really stands out with hints of herbal lavemder and a mysterious touch of smoke. Love this one to pieces. Very strong throw.
A bottom layer of sweet floral vanilla and ripe strawberries topped with a layer of raspberry vanilla ice cream.
Tart raspberry and soft touches of a white, powdery floral. It seems like there may be some lemon in here because that raspberry is unusually tart. Love this one and it has a strong throw.
Tunnel of Love
Red velvet raspberry cheesecake with a swirl of rose glace pudding.
Red velvet cake initially, but it fades and leaves behind sweet raspberry and Rose Jam. Light throw and it barely lasted a half day.
A celebration of vanillas, sweet chestnut, sugar and cream.
Sugared vanilla beans and a trace of roasted chestnuts. I love this one but the throw was *very* light.
Thirty Street Crafts
The King's Table
A heavenly breakfast. Scrumptious pumpkin waffles with butter, pure maple syrup, and brown sugar pecans topped with fresh, juicy peaches and delicious, fluffy whipped cream.
Fresh peaches and sticky glaze smothering buttery waffles. The peach stands out a little more than the bakery notes. I used half of a chunk and the throw was very light.
A full-bodied spiced Merlot grounded in dry figs and inspired by a ripe bouquet of berries.
Bar soap sample. Earthy and cozy figs with hints of tart red berries. I wouldn't call this Merlot though. I really liked this one and the scent lingered on my skin. The soap is more moisturizing than cleansing so it left my skin super soft.
Fresh cactus flowers, light coconut, soothing sandalwood and musk.
A B&BW dupe that smells of lush green cactus and a heavy white musk. Very strongly scented.
Blue sugar vanilla bean saltwater taffy.
The combination of these scents manages to smell something like blueberries and cream. Not as sweet because of the saltwater taffy but along those lines. Moderate throw in the warmer.
Zen Moment (lavender, sugared citrus, white woods and musk) blended with satsuma.
A blend of grapefruity satsuma and clean musk. The throw on this is insane but it does smell a bit chemical and harsh.
